The Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change
2009 is a crucial year for the climate change
agenda which, it is hoped, will culminate in a new international
climate deal being signed in Copenhagen in December. Both
The Bali and
Poznan Communiqués have played an important role in
building momentum in the international climate negotiations. They
have, amongst other things, reinforced the message to governments
that a large part of the international business community wants a
strong and effective international climate framework.
This year we have even bolder ambitions than
before. The Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change is set
to become the definitive statement from the business community
ahead of the Conference of the Parties 15 (COP15) in Copenhagen in
December. It is a short, punchy statement, synthesising some of the
key thinking that has come from business over the last 2 years.
With it, we hope to create the political space for progress on an
agreement where it currently may be lacking in the international
negotiations .
The target by
Copenhagen? 1000+ companies from across the globe, with every G20
country represented.

The Communiqué text and formal
sign-up process was launched in London on 29th June at a landmark
event "Copenhagen & Beyond", attended by His Royal
Highness, The Prince of
Wales.
The global
media launch of the Commniqué with all its 500+ signatures
took place on Tuesday 22nd September 2009 in New York. The
Commniqué was handed to Mr. Ban Ki-moon
(Secretary-General of the United Nations) at the UN Climate
Summit lunch in advance of the COP-15 in Copenhagen in
December.
