Contributions from three Cambridge academics reinforce the prevailing variety of today’s sustainability debate.

Emma Mawdsley is a University Senior Lecturer in the Geography Department and a Fellow of Newnham College.

Emma is a human geographer with a particular interest in the politics of environment and development. Her latest edited publication with Gerard McCann is India and Africa: Changing Geographies of Power and Development.

In her chapter, Dr Mawdsley notes the real danger in India that the drive towards greater sustainability will have regressive social outcomes.

Felicia Huppert is a Professor of Psychology, and Director of the Well-Being Institute at the University of Cambridge.

Felicia is a co-author of The Science of Well-Being with Nick Baylis and Barry Keverne.

In her chapter, Professor Huppert explores one of today’s most topical issues; how we measure the quality of our lives and our progress as a society.

Nicky Dee is a Research Associate in the Institute of Manufacturing in Cambridge's Engineering Department. Following her doctoral research on how new ventures manage opportunities and obstacles in the sustainable energy industry, she has continued to focus on innovation investment in emerging industries and greentech management and innovation.

In her chapter, Dr Dee looks at the barriers and opportunities associated with sustainability innovation.
