Based on 20 years of conversation with business leaders, Polly's scene-setting article focuses on the challenge of taking forward leadership for sustainability, asking whether our current model of leadership is fit for purpose: in the business community will we see leadership for ‘business as usual’, or leadership for ‘business as breakthrough’?
Polly summarises the CPSL model of leadership for sustainability, an approach which is grounded in the need for leaders to develop a profound and evolving understanding of the context within which their organisations operate. The article includes the findings from a series of recent interviews with business leaders, identifying seven key characteristic traits and styles that among the most important in distinguishing the leadership approach taken by individuals tackling sustainability issues.
