The 2°C Challenge Communiqué calls on governments to break the deadlock in the international negotiations and take the necessary action at a national level to ensure a successful transition to green growth and a climate resilient economy. Without an international deal, "business will have insufficient clarity or certainty of action to invest to its full potential".

This is the fifth in a series of corporate climate statements originally developed by The Prince of Wales's Corporate Leaders Group (CLG) which are seen by many as the definitive voice of the progressive international business community in advance of the annual UN climate conferences. It has built on the foundation of the renowned Bali, Poznan, Copenhagen and Cancun Communiqués. The 2°C Challenge Communiqué has been written and delivered by business leaders from a range of sectors including energy, finance, mining, retail, and manufacturing, via the newly established Corporate Leaders Network for Climate Action (CLN). The CLN includes groups from Central and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the US.

The Cancun Communiqué on Climate Change, launched on 16 November 2010, built on the significant momentum created by the Copenhagen Communiqué, and made it clear that the case for a comprehensive international framework to tackle climate change still stands and is increasingly urgent, and urged governments to both redouble their efforts to achieve this framework and also to take necessary and appropriate mitigation actions in parallel with such efforts. The Cancun Communiqué secured the support of over 400 companies based in 36 countries.

October ClimateWise’s Statement on the UNFCCC COP-15 Copenhagen Negotiations, October 2009
September The Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change had the support of over 950 companies, from the US, EU, Japan, Australia and Canada, to Brazil, Argentina, Russia, India, China, Korea and South Africa; ranging from the world’s largest companies and best known brands, to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It represented a truly remarkable consensus from the world’s most senior corporate leaders on the business case for a robust, effective and equitable deal in UN Climate Framework.

May The St James’s Palace Nobel Laureate Symposium was convened by CPSL in association with the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) under the Patronage of The Prince of Wales. It was hosted at St James’s Palace, the Royal Society and the Science Museum.

The St James’s Palace Symposium built on the foundation of a first Nobel Laureate Symposium on Global Sustainability hosted by Chancellor Merkel in Potsdam, Germany, in October 2007. The third Nobel Laureate Symposium on global sustainability will be held in Stockholm on 16–19 May 2011.

December Ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference in Poznań, Poland, the CLG launched The Poznań Communiqué which set out what they believe should be the key elements of an international deal on climate change and was endorsed by the business leaders of over 140 companies worldwide.The initiative represented an impressive coming together of the international business community and included some of the biggest companies and brands from around the world.

2007

November In November 2007, the EU CLG joined with the UK CLG to publish a Communiqué to governments gathering at the UN Climate Change Conference in Bali. The Bali Communiqué was endorsed by over 170 companies from around the world.
