The Prince of Wales's Business & Sustainability Programme

About BSP

"I can say that the Business & Sustainability Programme is the best seminar in which I have ever participated."
Senior Vice President, Holcim

The Senior Executives Seminars

The Programme’s three-day Senior Executives Seminars are the pre-eminent regional opportunity for senior decision-makers to think deeply with their peers about the strategic implications of major emerging environmental and social trends. The seminars draw delegates from over 40 countries, are held annually in the UK, continental Europe, South Africa, Australia and the USA.

Outstanding contributions from members of the Programme’s Core Faculty and specially invited speakers, combined with the knowledge, interest and authority of high calibre participants, make these seminars unique. The opportunity to meet and debate with like-minded peers and to search with them for practical solutions using real business scenarios is also valued by those who attend.

The Content

The underlying theme of each three-day Seminar is the management of change in turbulent times. This involves understanding global trends and the social and environmental risks and opportunities that these bring.

Each Seminar begins with a rapid but deep immersion in the key challenges of unsustainability, material risks and opportunities these pose, as well as key trends in response. It then explores the actions that companies can take to enhance their competitive advantage, as well as opportunities for system-level interventions that will create an enabling context for long-term corporate sustainability and profitability.

The Format

The BSP learning approach is based around dialogue and debate, enriched by expert contributions from leading thinkers and practitioners in the field.

Small syndicate groups, each led by a member of the Core Faculty, allow delegates to deepen their understanding of the issues and explore the implications for themselves and their organisations.

"The key feature of the Programme has become the level of intellectual challenge that has been attained. This has been done quite deliberately by inviting only the most original and thought-provoking speakers and attracting the highest calibre of delegates."
The Prince of Wales, President, The Prince of Wales's Business & Sustainability Programme

In his capacity as President of the Programme, and through his personal commitment to and leadership in sustainability, His Royal Highness takes a keen interest in the Programme's ongoing development. He has attended a number of Programme seminars, and regularly hosts Programme events at his Clarence House and Highgrove residences.

The Prince's presence at Programme events, and his contribution to discussions, play a key role in encouraging and inspiring delegates and alumni.

Key Themes for Our 2011 Seminars

The Programme content is constantly evolving to keep pace with the changing context and to respond to the increasing sophistication and complexity of delegate needs. The following are some of the key areas of focus for the 2011 seminars.

Confronting the challenges: food, energy and natural resource security, cities, emerging economies, sustainable supply chains, finance and investment.
Innovation and influence: innovation in products, processes and markets; engagement with customers, employees and policy makers.
The next economy: creating the context for long-term sustainable business - driving policy and markets for a low carbon economy.
Leadership in context: leading transformation at an organisational, industry and individual level and embedding change.

The seminars for senior executives – whether they are held in the UK, continental Europe, the US, Southern Africa or Australia – all use common content and similar processes to address the central challenges of sustainable development.

However, each seminar is tailored to address the key themes of relevance to the seminar’s location and will draw on leading edge content experts from the country or region.

The seminars are led by an international faculty, with each faculty team chaired by a leading member of the Core Faculty with expertise and experience of working in the region in question.

Each seminar is attended by an international delegation, with up to half of delegates drawn from outside the region in which the seminar is located.
